LAKEWOOD -- A township man is facing aggravated assault and weapons charges after police say he stabbed a man during a fight on Saturday night.
Police found a man with a stab wound to the lower abdomen after arriving around 10 p.m. to a residence on Central Avenue, said Detective Lt. Steven Allaire.
Officers responded to the residence after receiving a report of three drunken men fighting with knives, Allaire said. Two other men involved in the altercation were gone when police arrived.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Allaire did not have an update on the man's condition as of Monday afternoon, but said he went into surgery Sunday morning.
One of the men involved, Reme Velasquez, 34, of Lakewood, was eventually located and arrested, Allaire said. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Velasquez was taken to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $95,000 bail.
Allaire said one person involved in the fight is still at large. He asked anyone with information to contact Detective Peter Aakjer at 732-363-0200 ext. 5338.
Also assisting with the investigation is the Ocean County Sheriff's Office's CSI unit and K-9 team.
