Thomas Shannon faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced in August.

TRENTON -- A federal jury convicted a 37-year-old Jersey City man Wednesday on charges stemming from his role as a supplier to a drug ring that worked in Monmouth, Ocean and other counties in the state, the office of U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said in a statement.

Thomas Shannon, also known as "Cuzzo," was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and more than a kilogram of heroin, one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and one count of engaging in a transaction involving criminally derived property.

Between October 2013 and March 2014, Shannon conspired with others to distribute drugs in Ocean and Monmouth, including members of the "Britt-Young DTO," a ring named for its leaders Robert Britt and Rufus Young. With the help of another conspirator, Shannon received drug shipments from California via an address in Perth Amboy, then packaged the drugs at stash houses in Asbury Park and Long Branch. Including Shannon, 21 of 22 people charged in connection with distributing the drugs have been convicted.

Shannon faces up to life in prison and a $10 million fine when he's sentenced Aug. 30.
