BARNEGAT LIGHT -- The U.S. Coast Guard Friday morning rescued a 67-year-man man boating near Oyster Creek Channel who was experiencing "heart attack-like symptoms," according to a statement from the Coast Guard.

Rescuers were dispatched after receiving a call from a crew member aboard the 34-foot recreational boat, "which ran aground" in the Channel.

The Coast Guard arrived and transported the man to shore, where he was "transferred to emergency medical service personnel" and medevaced, the statement said.

"Helping people when they need it most is why we are here," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Mikail Ubieta, the responding coxswain. "Having a VHF radio on board allowed the boaters to directly contact us so we could transport him to proper medical care."

The boat, the Coast Guard said, "does not pose a hazard to navigation" and salvage of the boat remains pending.
