EAGLESWOOD -- A fire destroyed a portion of a family-owned appliance store on Saturday, police said.
No one was injured in the massive blaze, which started shortly before 5 p.m. at the Anchor Appliance store on Route 9 in the West Creek section of town. The appliance store has been in business for nearly 50 years.
Sgt. Jeff Flynn, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police, said two troopers were first to arrive at the scene and saw the rear of the building engulfed in flames. State Police provide police services for the tiny southern Ocean County town of nearly 2,000.
The first troopers on the scene quickly entered an apartment attached to the building, where they rescued the owner's dog, Daisy, and two electric guitars and an amplifier. The owner was not present at the time of the fire, Flynn said.
The fire shut down a portion of Route 9 for approximately seven hours.
Multiple fire departments from Ocean and Burlington counties responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal.
