BARNEGAT -- A township woman has been charged in the hit-and-run crash Monday that left a 61-year-old woman dead, police said.

Cassie Hansen, 27 was arrested at a residence on Center Street shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, police said. She was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a fatal motor-vehicle crash, Barnegat police said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

Marie Thorne, 61, of Barnegat, was walking on Ridgeway Street in the area of Bayview Boulevard shortly before 8 a.m. Monday when she was struck and killed by a person driving a tan Chevrolet Silverado truck, police said.

At around 4 p.m., an anonymous person who had seen media reports describing the truck flagged down Barnegat Patrolman Kyle Cranmer and reported seeing a vehicle matching the description traveling south on Route 9, according to police.

Sgt. Jason Carroll found the Silverado truck, which had damage to the front of the passenger's side, in the driveway of a home on Center Street, police said.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Barnegat police arrested Hansen at the residence, police said.

Hansen was taken to the Ocean County Jail where she remains in lieu of $150,000 bail with no 10-percent option.

In the statement, police thanked the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department for their assistance in the investigation.
