JACKSON -- BMX rider and Jackson Township native Scotty Cranmer suffered serious injuries on Wednesday while attempting a bike trick in Las Vegas.

Cranmer, 29, was taping a film session with teammates from Monster Energy in Las Vegas when the front wheel of his bike got caught in a hole, forcing him off the bike. Cranmer was unable to get his hands out in front of him in time to break the fall, according to friends who were with him.
He suffered several fractures in his face, cerebral hemorrhage and damage to his vertebrae, according to a website dedicated to his recovery.
An update posted on the website Sunday said Cranmer is healing well from the brain damage and the surgeries on his spine.
"It's really good news," Cranmer's wife, Lisa, wrote on the website. "It's going to be a battle but Scotty can do it! You guys know how much fight and determination he has. He's got this."
The Cranmer family is collecting donations to put toward Scotty's recovery on the website Road 2 Recovery. The site has collected more than $2,000.
Cranmer graduated from Jackson Memorial High School. He grew up riding at the Incline Club skatepark in Lakewood where he still trains, he said in an interview with one of his sponsors, Vans shoes. He also owns a bike shop in Howell.
A nine-time X Games medalist, Cranmer also has a devoted YouTube following of more than 600,000.
