Lakewood police said they evacuated Maria Hall to investigate a suspicious circumstance
LAKEWOOD -- Lakewood police say they evacuated a dormitory at Georgian Court University Wednesday morning to investigate a potential bomb threat that made a reference to President-elect Donald Trump.
Detective Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said Lakewood police were alerted at 10:52 a.m. that someone had written the words "Trump = Bomb" in the bathroom of Maria Hall dormitory.
He said police officers and detectives helped campus security evacuate the dormitory before K-9 units from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office conducted a sweep of the building. Nothing suspicious was found and the dormitory was deemed safe, Staffordsmith said.
He said students were permitted to return to the dormitory starting at 12:50 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing to determine who wrote the perceived threat which Staffordsmith said caused a false public alarm.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Michael Mooney at 732-363-0200, ext. 5341.
