Police in Jackson couldn't get into the Huntington Drive home because of the flames, authorities said
JACKSON -- A 77-year-old woman was injured Thursday when she was trapped in her burning home in Jackson, authorities said.
Firefighters found the woman inside her Huntington Drive home after police officers couldn't get past the heavy smoke to get inside the house, said Jackson police Capt. Steven Laskiewicz.
Laskiewicz said Jackson police officers Kevin Chesney, Joe Candido and Cassie De La Torre went to the house at 12:58 p.m. on the report of a fire after a neighbor called police.
Facing flames coming from the house, the officers couldn't get inside, he said.
Firefighters from Station 54 arriving soon after got into the house and found the woman unconscious in a side room, he said.
Rescuers brought the woman outside where firefighters from Station 55 started efforts to resuscitate her, Laskiewicz said. He said Quality First Aid and MONOC paramedics continued those efforts. She was rushed to an area hospital for treatment, he said.
The investigation is being conducted by members of the Jackson Police Department's detective bureau, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and the Ocean County Fire Marshal.
