John Fischer V admitted to setting fire to a Toms River home while two people were inside,
TOMS RIVER -- A repeat arsonist was sentenced to seven years in prison for setting fire to the home of a Toms River man, authorities said Wednesday.
Before he becomes eligible for parole, John Fischer V, 27, will have to serve nearly six years of the sentence imposed Friday by Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Fischer, who pleaded guilty to aggravated arson, deliberately set fire to a Camino Roble Drive home shortly after midnight on Sept. 6 while two people inside were asleep, authorities said at the time.
The 42-year-old man inside the home woke at 12:30 a.m. to find smoke near the front of his house and flames shooting under the front door, police said.
Using a fire extinguisher to douse the flames, the man then noticed a red glow at the back of the house where he found the vinyl siding on fire, authorities have said. The man also extinguished those flames.
Fischer, of Toms River, was arrested later that day.
Fischer was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to arson and burglary in September 2011 for an August 2010 incident, according to court records.
