Officer Brett Hansen was injured in an off-duty collision.
CAMDEN -- Things may be getting a little chippy in Toms River on Saturday, but it will all be for a good cause.
The Camden County Police hockey team has dropped the gloves and will take on the Toms River Police hockey squad in a charity game to raise money for an injured officer.
Officer Brett Hansen was seriously injured in an early-morning, off-duty collision with a tractor trailer last month on the Garden State Parkway in Brick Township. Hansen, 28, had previously served in the Camden County police force.
Camden police Det. Lucas Murray is helping to organize the event.
"He still has a long way to go," Murray said. "He's healing as best as can. Police get a really bad rap these days but this is one of the many positive things we do and not just for fellow officers."
Murray said Hansen will likely face more hardships during his recovery and his brother officers want to do what they can to help.
The charity game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Winding River Skating Rink, 1211 Whitesville Road, Toms River. A $10 donation is requested.
Friends have also set up a Go-Fund-Me page that has raised $32,000 so far, surpassing its original goal.
