BRICK TOWNSHIP - A 71-year-old Lakewood woman was pronounced dead Friday morning after her car overturned on Princeton Avenue.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m., a 2009 Kia Spectra being driven by Anne Labrutto, 71, of Lakewood, was traveling west on Princeton Avenue when it veered to the right side of the road and struck a curb before hitting a fence and overturning onto its driver's side, police said.
The vehicle came to a rest in the westbound shoulder of Princeton Avenue, approximately 50 feet east of the intersection with Navajo Trail.
Brick Township police officers responded to the scene and members of the Laurelton Fire Company extricated Labrutto from the vehicle. But she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigation Unit and members of Brick Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash.
A preliminary investigation determined that Labrutto may have suffered a medical episode before the crash and caused the car to veer off the road, police said.
Anyone with information related to the crash or who may have witnessed it is asked to contact the Brick Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
