Multiple firefighters were reportedly hospitalized and at least two families were displaced after a fire tore through a Brick Township apartment complex.
BRICK TOWNSHIP - Multiple firefighters were hospitalized and at least two families were displaced after a fire tore through a portion of the Brick Gardens Apartments on Monday morning.
A resident of one of the apartments heavily damaged by the fire told NJ Advance Media that a police officer frantically woke her family up shortly after 2 a.m. due to a fire in a neighboring unit.
The woman, who declined to give her name, said that her apartment unit was "completely damaged" and that the unit where the fire is believed to have originated was gutted, but she did not know how many people total were displaced.
An official at the scene said inspectors were still working to determine the cause of the blaze and also how many units in all were damaged by the fire.
At least three firefighters were transported to an area hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries, the official said.
No other injuries were reported.
