JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST -- The U.S. Army Reserve broke ground this weekend on an 87,000-square-foot, $20 million facility to train and support soldiers.
The building, scheduled to open in January 2019, will have the latest in training and administrative resources, from classrooms and a learning center, to a library and a weapons simulator, the Army said.
It will be home to about 600 Army reservists in 15 base units currently occupying about a dozen base facilities.
"This facility represents the next step toward ensuring that America's Army Reserve remains the most capable, combat-ready and lethal federal reserve force in the history of the nation," said Maj. Gen. Troy D. Kok, commanding general of the Army Reserve's 99th Regional Support Command.
The 99th command supports 44,000 Army reservists who live and serve in 13 northeastern states.
"This facility matters because it will support, encourage, train and help enable our reserve component to be ready when they are called on for service," U.S. Rep. Tom MacArthur, (R-3rd Dist.), said in a statement.
The building will be silver-certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, the Army said.
