Robert Meloni, 51, was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
BERKELEY TOWNSHIP -- An Eatontown man released from prison last week found himself behind bars yet again after he was charged Wednesday in connection with at least one burglary in a retirement community.
Robert Meloni, 51, was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools after police identified him as a person of interest in a burglary in Berkeley's Holiday City section of town. Holiday City is a retirement community in which residents must be at least 55 years old to own a home.
Police said Meloni was released from state prison on Nov. 24 where he had been serving time for committing more than 30 burglaries in Berkeley, Toms River and Brick Township in 2010 and 2011.
Based on prior case history and new information, detectives identified Meloni as a person of interest in a burglary on Edinburg Drive on Wednesday, police said.
Meloni was located later that day and arrested without incident, police said. They said more charges are expected as more victims come forward.
Meloni was taken to the Ocean County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
