TOMS RIVER -- A Waretown man admitted on Monday to sexually abusing a young child, authorities announced.
Frederic Whitehead, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree offense, and one count of sexual assault in Ocean County Superior Court, said Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Whitehead admitted to sexually assaulting a child between the ages of 6 and 12 from May 2006 until August 2012. He was arrested on July 1, 2013, following an Ocean County Prosecutor's Office investigation.
The prosecution is seeking a 13-year state prison sentence for Whitehead, along with parole supervision for life and registration as a sex offender under Megan's Law and Nicole's Law, which bars the defendant from having contact with the victim.
Whitehead remains incarcerated at the Ocean County Jail on $250,000 bail with no 10-percent option.
