LACEY -- A man is facing robbery charges after police say he ran off with a woman's wallet on Friday.

The woman gave Joseph L. Biggs, 22, of Barnegat, a ride from a friend's house, police said. When the two crossed into Lacey, Biggs allegedly told the woman to pull over and then grabbed her wallet from the center console.

Biggs exited the vehicle and then was confronted by the woman, police said. He kicked the woman's legs out from underneath her, pushed her to the ground, and then ran away, police said.

Police responded at 6:18 p.m. to the area of Clearview and Ocean streets after a resident who was walking his dog reported the incident to police. The resident told police he heard a woman scream that she had just been robbed.

The resident said he tried to chase after Biggs but lost sight of him at some point, according to police.

An investigation led police to identify Biggs as the suspect, and issued a warrant out for his arrest on robbery charges.

Biggs turned himself in to authorities on Sunday, and was taken to the Ocean County Jail. Bail was set at $150,000.
