She ignored an officer's request to drop the machete and started walking towards him, police said.
LITTLE EGG HARBOR -- A township woman was arrested Sunday evening after she ignored an officer's orders to drop a 3-foot machete, police said.
Juanita Cerbone, 53, was wielding a machete on Snead Court and was visibly drunk, police said in a statement sent to news outlets.
Little Egg Harbor police Officer Brian Smith encountered Cerbone after he was called to the area of Radio Road and St. Andrews Drive at around 6:15 p.m. for a report of suspicious people standing on the street corner.
When Smith arrived, he saw Cerbone walking on Snead Court with a 3-foot machete in her hand, police said. Smith pulled out his service weapon and ordered Cerbone to drop the machete but she ignored his demands, according to police.
Police said Cerbone started waking towards Smith with the machete in her hand. She was noticeably intoxicated, police added.
Cerbone finally dropped the machete when Officers Chris Arciniegas and John Kelly arrived at the scene, police said.
Cerbone was arrested and charged with obstruction, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
She was taken to the Ocean County Jail and bail was set at $10,000.
