Breeds of all shapes and sizes competed in the Jersey Shore event.
WILDWOOD -- Hundreds of dogs, from tall to small, competed in the All Breed Dog Show at the Wildwoods Convention Center Friday. The Atlantic Ocean Classic Dog Show Cluster, hosted by the Union County Kennel Club, Sand and Sea Kennel Club, and Boardwalk Kennel Club of Cape May County, features five days of contests, which continue through the weekend.
Highlights for Saturday's event include an All Breed Dog Show hosted by the Boardwalk Kennel Club of Cape May County, Obedience and Rally Dog Show finals, and a Best Puppy in Show competition.
A special ceremony to honor police K-9 officers is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Being honored are K-9 Ben of the Salem County Sheriff's Office, K-9 Aron of Deptford, K-9s Brix, Rex and Axel of Washington Township, K-9 Bento of Glassboro, and K-9 Jethro of Canton, Ohio. There will also be a police K-9 demonstration and awards ceremony for valor and service.
Sunday's featured events are the Best Bred by Exhibitor in Show competition, a sanctioned 4- to 6-month-old puppy competition and another All Breed Dog Show.
Competitions begin at 9 a.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. Tickets are available at the door the day of the event.
Another AKC dog show will be held on Memorial Day weekend at the East Freehold Park in Freehold. The show is hosted by the Plainfield Kennel Club, Union County Kennel Club, and Staten Island Kennel Club.
