The body of a 31-year-old mother of two from Toms River was found in a wooded area in Lakewood on April 2, 2001.
TOMS RIVER - More than 15 years after the body of a young mother of two was discovered in a wooded area in Lakewood, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office's Cold Case Unit has renewed its request for information on her death.
Gabrielle Mueller, a 31-year-old mother of two, was last seen alive during the evening hour of Sunday, April 1, 2001. The Toms River Police Department was contacted the following day and she was reported as a missing person.
On April 3, 2001, Mueller's body was found in a wooded area off Salem Street, near the Lakewood Industrial Park.
Her blue Toyota Corolla was initially unaccounted for, but was eventually located in Lakewood the following day.
A subsequent autopsy determined that the she died as a result of strangulation and her death classified as a homicide, the Ocean Count Prosecutor's Office said.
"To date though OCPO and OC Law Enforcement have not developed any significant clues pointing to the individual(s) responsible for her death, we will never stop seeking justice for Gabrielle and her loved ones," the prosecutor's office said in a release Friday.
The prosecutor's office added that its Cold Case Unit investigators "serve as advocates for victims in unsolved cases regardless of how much time has passed, working to bring peace to the loved ones of an individual who was senselessly killed or is missing."
