CAPE MAY -- A Coast Guard recruit from Virginia who collapsed last week after a physical fitness run at a training center in New Jersey died Wednesday, the Cape May Herald reported.
Seaman Recruit Aaron Redd, 21, of Stafford, Va., collapsed July 1 at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May after completing the 1.5 mile run portion of his initial physical fitness assessment, the newspaper reported. Coast Guard medical personnel were already on the scene when Redd collapsed and immediately rendered aid.
He was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center where he died five days later, the newspaper reported. Redd's cause of death has not yet been determined.
According to the Associated Press, the Coast Guard will conduct a full investigation into the recruit's death, which is standard policy in such cases.
