A witness called authorities after seeing a man go under the water
LAKEWOOD -- A search for a reported missing swimmer was underway as of about 9 p.m. Friday at Lake Shenandoah County Park, police at the scene said.
A man at the park with his family contacted park security around 5:40 p.m. after he heard strange noises and splashing, Lakewood police Lt. James Finnegan said.
The witness said he went to the water's edge and saw a man screaming, then go under without resurfacing, Finnegan said.
Finnegan said police were unable to find signs of a missing person, such as belongings or a vehicle, but also said the witness was adamant he'd seen someone in the water.
Divers and boats armed with floodlights were seen searching the 48-acre lake as other first-responders staged at a pier.
