Nicholas Mayer surrendered to police Tuesday after warrant was issued for his arrest in the theft from the restaurant on Route 37 west, Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said in a release.

Mayer is accused of taking a tip jar with approximately $100 that was next to the restaurant's cash register on Nov. 20, police said. The manager reported the theft to police.

Video surveillance captured an image of the suspect, later identified as Mayer, Stocco said. He fled fled in a U-Haul truck with no license plates, Stocco said.

Police Officer Ryan Gashlin developed information that led to complaints being signed against Mayer. He was processed and released on bail pending a future court date after surrendering to police.
